Sinus Lifting

Sinus lift, also called sinus augmentation, is a procedure that facilitates the placement of dental implants for patients who have lost bone but need dental implants. Because the jawbone in the area where the implant will be applied is generally thinner than other areas, an adequate amount of bone cannot be achieved. Since natural teeth allow bone cells to continue to regenerate by stimulating the jawbone, bone loss occurs after natural teeth are removed. Sinus Lifting is a very successful treatment method that compensates for this loss.

The anatomical cavities (sinuses) on the upper jaw near the molars create sound and reduce the weight of the head. When these cavities diminish, bone volume losses occur. These losses cause problems in implant application processes. This procedure increases the amount of bone in the maxilla required for dental implants.

Situations such as missing teeth, behind the jaw near the sinuses, anatomical deficiencies, periodontal disease, may require Lifting of the sinuses. The proximity of the sinuses to the maxilla may adversely affect the area required for implant application. The sinus Lifting procedure can be used to gain more space.

Treatment:

Lifting of the paranasal sinuses is generally a bone grafting procedure. During this procedure, autogenous bones from the mouth or other parts of the body, allogenic bones from cadavers, xenograft from cows or synthetic materials can be used.

After the measurements to be performed, the application is started.

The sinus lift procedure is a very simple operation that takes about 2 hours and is usually performed in the office under local anesthesia.

After anesthesia, the gum is cut and the jaw bone is exposed. Then a small circular incision is made to push the sinus membrane into the bone. After the gap is filled with bone graft, the procedure is completed by suturing.

After treatment:

Patients can go home the same day. It is natural that swelling and bleeding occur after the procedure.Food and drink should be avoided for 2 hours after the procedure. Care should be taken to protect the wound area from contact with food and drink for 24 hours.Keeping the bone graft in place is the most important issue in the healing process. Therefore, nose cleansing should be done carefully to avoid pressure that may occur in the area, and keeping the mouth closed while sneezing should be avoided. All this can cause the bone graft material to move and loosen the suture.
