The Importance Of Oral And Dental Health During The Pandemic Period

The World Health Organization defines a state of health as follows: “Health is not only the absence of illness and disability but also a state of complete well-being in body, spirit and social terms.” Oral and dental health, which plays a very active role in the quality of life of a Modern person, is a condition in which the hard tissues of the mouth and the soft tissues that make up the mouth do not have a problem that will lead to infection and tissue loss. It is important to note that the possible problems that we experience in this regard or will experience as a result of the incomplete treatment will not only lead to our oral health, but also to other possible health problems that may arise from the lack of intervention.

According to all this information, as dentists, we would like to point out the importance of continuing your treatments during the pandemic risk period. Oral and dental diseases are among the most common infections in the world. If you don't have a big problem, you can postpone your checks for a while during the pandemic period. But incomplete treatments can cause deterioration of our oral and dental health and even our overall health. At this point, regular oral and dental health checks are important.  Especially caries and gum diseases directly threaten health. If you need urgent dental treatment, you may need to go to the dentist first if you have sudden pain and bleeding, if your crowns and bridges have fallen, if you have swinging implants and prostheses.

A healthy diet during a pandemic is vital to reducing our risk of developing diseases. If you have cavities and deficiencies in teeth, incomplete prosthetic applications, incompatible and painful prostheses, there will also be a decrease in your nutritional quality.

Dental caries should be treated without wasting time. It causes incurable loss of the hard tissue of the teeth. After a while, a condition called Pulp occurs. It reaches the veins that provide the sensitivity of our teeth, and from there to the nerves. The feeling of pain becomes constant and unbearable. At the next time, microorganisms that reach the pulp of the caries tooth move along the canal at the root of the tooth. It gets into our blood through the jawbone. It threatens many of our organs, including our whole body, heart, and joints. It can cause serious joint and heart infections. Our mouth is an internal and external organ in terms of the functions it performs. Our digestive function begins in the mouth. Our digestion is fully fulfilled if our teeth and soft tissues are healthy. Maintaining dental health, having healthy soft tissues allows digestive functions to work much better.

As dentists, who are the risk group most threatened by infectious diseases, we are responsible for protecting the health of the community and the health of our immediate environment. With this awareness of responsibility, we continue to provide dental health services in accordance with our academic experience, professional experience, technical equipment, clinical conditions and diagnoses, and definitions that the Ministry of Health constantly updates. We perceive health as a whole and protect health; we give the necessary support to community oral and dental health by taking into account our risk, responsibilities, and principles during the pandemic period.
